What Is NEET 2026?

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is India’s single largest medical entrance examination. NEET 2026 will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BVSc and other undergraduate medical programs across India. With more than 24 lakh aspirants expected to register, NEET 2026 will once again be the most competitive undergraduate exam in the country.

NEET 2026 Exam Dates

The NTA is expected to release the official NEET 2026 notification by early February 2026. Based on past trends, here is the tentative schedule:

  • Notification release: First week of February 2026
  • Application window: February – March 2026
  • Admit card: Last week of April 2026
  • Exam date: First Sunday of May 2026 (tentative)
  • Result declaration: Mid-June 2026

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have completed 17 years of age by 31 December 2026 and should have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English with at least 50% aggregate (40% for SC/ST/OBC, 45% for PwD). There is no upper age limit, and the number of attempts is unrestricted.

Exam Pattern

NEET 2026 will be a 3 hour 20 minute pen-and-paper test with 200 multiple-choice questions (180 to be attempted). The paper carries 720 marks: +4 for every correct answer and −1 for each incorrect response.

  • Physics — 45 questions / 180 marks
  • Chemistry — 45 questions / 180 marks
  • Botany — 45 questions / 180 marks
  • Zoology — 45 questions / 180 marks

NEET 2026 Syllabus

The syllabus follows the rationalised NCERT curriculum for Classes 11 and 12. Key high-weightage areas include Mechanics, Modern Physics, Organic Chemistry, Human Physiology, Genetics and Ecology. Mastering NCERT line by line remains the single most important study habit for a top rank.

Preparation Strategy

  1. Build NCERT fluency first. Read each chapter at least three times before touching reference books.
  2. Follow a 10–12 hour weekly mock-test cycle. Solve previous-year papers and full-length tests under exam conditions.
  3. Maintain an error log. Note every silly mistake and conceptual gap, and revisit it weekly.
  4. Revise actively. Use spaced repetition for biology and formula sheets for physics and chemistry.
  5. Take care of health. Eight hours of sleep, physical activity and family support outperform another late-night session.
